Chapter 1. Genuine Peace of Mind
How the negatives are created and survive
With the natural functions of the mind to overthink, mixed with our cognitive distortions we create reasons to question our learned positive beliefs. And by questioning the positives we already know, we start to rely on the negatives. Here is where we easily fall into negative thinking behavior patterns. Combine needless overthinking with any one of your cognitive distortions and this all becomes the mental clutter that clogs the minds’ positive thinking processes. And these clogging events do the following:
• Generate more overthinking of negative issues creating more negative thought patterns;
• Block the natural response powers of our positive energies to evict our negative thoughts and
• Extend the residential lease on our negative thinking thought patterns so that the negative thoughts remain; blocking the positive thinking thoughts.
These negative thinking behavior patterns become our ‘calling cards,’ our identities, for life. The consummate liars. The cheaters and the haters who have no respect for themselves and anyone else because they are lost in their beliefs of the powers of their negativity. Our negative thoughts create the negative identities that we follow and admire: Con artists, grifters, liars and cheaters. We openly allow them to dominate our thinking thoughts.
The worst of it all is that this ‘circus’ of negative thinking is passed on from generation to generation through traditions that allow the negativism to settle in and become part of our culture. Each day is an uphill battle fighting the inherited generational negatives compounded with the daily negatives. And you personally, may not be the one who is creating the negatives. For certain it is the stimulus of our society teaching all of us to accept our negative thoughts as normal. Our cultural societies knowingly or unknowingly use our traditional celebrations as the hidden delivery vehicle for our blind acceptance of our most dangerous negatives:
• jealousy,
• hate and
• deceit.
Without sufficient help and instruction we fall into allowing our negative thinking activity to become part of our daily lifestyle.
In the overthinking of our problems, often due to cognitive distortion behaviors we accept the negative thoughts as the best answers and solutions to our problems. With the acceptance of our cognitive distortions we throw out the truths of the positives we were once taught to believe in. We now mentally entertain and accept our negatives. We embrace and rename our negative behaviors, celebrating them as our newly named positive behavior influencers. To our detriment we openly give strength to negative thoughts and negative persons not realizing we are designing our own self destruction. We applaud the villains, con men and deceivers in our societies as heroes. We, “Follow the yellow brick road,” but not to the wisdom of ‘OZ’ but to the self-destructive desires of lust, greed and deception.
It is time to reorganize our thinking patterns and create a positive thinking mindset that can identify our negative thoughts and prevent our negative behaviors.
